Affinity Group

The Physical and Cognitive Disabilities Group is a recently created affinity group with goals to combat ableism in the ISD by implementing projects that ensure equity and "free and appropriate public education" for those with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.

Our Projects

Disability Sensitivity & Etiquette

This project aims to increase awareness and help nondisabled individuals in the student body act and speak to and about their peers with disabilities in a more inclusive, less stigmatizing way. The way many students interact with their peers with disabilities infantilizes them, is patronizing, and offensive, and we hope this electronic guide, physical pamphlet, or an SEL lesson will help students recognize ableist speech and actions.
