Safe Space

By introducing a space for youth-oriented community--focused on personal development, academic success, mental health, and social inclusion--our mission is to create an environment that balances private confidentiality and public space, facilitating high school students’ access to adults and a community space they trust to meet their needs. We prioritize equitable accommodation for intersectional assistance, providing students with resources and guidance in relation to the needs of low-income students, students experiencing homelessness, and other marginalized groups.

Within the past 10 months we have been partnering with KayLee Jeach, the Executive Director of “The Garage: A Teen Cafe”. KayLee has helped us with securing a budget and mentoring us throughout the process of creating this space. Recently we have begun partnering with Tiana Perry who also works at The Garage, to help with logistical aspects of finding spaces and getting in contact with real estate agendents.

As of right now our main goal is locating a space and presenting to the community. We are collecting youth testimonials as well and feel free to add one of your own here.

Youth Home

Our Group is working to establish a permanent living space for unhoused students to thrive in all aspects, empowering youth in educational, personal, and social development. By working with community leaders, we will focus on amending inequities for physically displaced students in the Issaquah School District with the aim of eliminating socioeconomic barriers. By creating a long-term, home-like environment--students will be able to fully embrace their education and personal development without experiencing anxiety over housing instability. With a focus on privacy and individual support through resources like counseling, tutoring, healthcare, and more, we hope to facilitate student growth and offer a considerate community.

To aid us in our journey, we currently have a Youth Home Committee that consists of community members and officials. KayLee Jeach also plays a huge role in this portion of our project.

As of right now, we are working on organization and youth interviews. The purpose of interviewing organizations is to find out what could be beneficial in our home. Our youth interviews are made for people who have been to shelters to share their experiences and provide their perspective.
